Planet Zar: Nexus

The Heimdall

A military research station whose services can be purchased by anyone with the right coin. The Refugium and Mwari Station have paid them a hefty fee to stay near and protect their conservation projects. Apart from boasting a large force of armed vessels and well trained soldiers, the Heimdall also regularly conducts bio-engineering experiments.

Civilians are not permitted access to the Heimdall without vetting and a security escort at all times.

The Heimdall is both a main base of operations and the name of a complex, well-funded mercenary organization. Civilians are rarely permitted onboard the Heimdall and never without an appropriate escort.

The Heimdall boasts a massive docking bay where several warships lay in wait. There are several decks dedicated to training troops for all positions and terrain, a mid-deck for recreation and meals, and several decks of modest crew quarters. The ship can host 10,000 active members, but the organization has several more deployed on planets, ships, and secondary star bases. The ship rarely runs at maximum capacity.

The Heimdall has a complex hydroponics system which provides its residents with food and water. Typical rations are plain but nutritious, with more flavorful meals able to be purchased with staff credits.

Enlisted troops follow a strict schedule of duties and training prior to mission assignments, with long stretches of down time between completed missions. All staff are to be kept in fighting condition and ready for deployment at any time.

While most of the Heimdall's occupants are soldiers of various skills and specialization, the base has a state of the art laboratory dedicated to the creation and perfection of super soldiers. A crack team of geneticists, biologists, chemists, and medical doctors boast an important part of the Heimdall. As with any ship, there is a vast population of support staff, but most chores and custodial duties are performed by new recruits.

Previously, the Heimdall's population consisted almost entirely of humans and a handful of androids possessing varying levels of sentience. Any individuals appearing non-humanoid were the results of genetic alterations. Since taking a major commission with Mwari Station, the Heimdall has accepted recruits of many different species. They've also found the practice of bonding dragons beneficial as a whole, and frequently send officers to various locations with the intent to impress.

Ranks & Structure

The Heimdall consists of four divisions:

Military: the largest branch, consisting of soldiers, officers, pilots, and field medics, further divided into several branches
Intelligence: information gathering, data brokers, espionage, and the all important internal affairs
Science: doctors, biologists, chemists, engineers, robotics techs, and more - in charge of the Heimdall's super soldier program and weapon invention
Support: maintenance crew for the Heimdall itself as well as each individual warship, custodial staff

Military

Leader: General Rose Rosenheim

Branches

Starfleet: like the navy but in space, Starfleet consists of Heimdall's war vessels and are used for off-planet warfare, many vessels also act as transport for the ground forces but Starfleet officers are required to have basic ground combat training

Ground Forces: the army, on-planet combat - probably the largest military branch. Some operations specialize in particular terrain or types of warfare. Ground Forces are often stationed long-term off the Heimdall itself and their services can be purchased for planet colonization and exploration outfits. Equipped with hand-to-hand combat skills as well as a plethora of high tech weaponry.

Marine Forces: the smallest branch of the Heimdall, marine forces are equipped for water-related warfare, whether it be surface level ships or deep sea expeditions. Many of the Heimdall's marine forces have been augmented or genetically altered to survive underwater.

Branches

Genetics: the most prestigious branch of the Heimdall's science division, focusing on genetic manipulation and augmentation for the purpose of creating super soldiers

Genetics Program

Led by Dr. Krum, the Heimdall's Genetic Program intends to create the perfect super soldier, and has several branches and creations that have spawned from it during its pursuits. Current projects include:

Therian: Genetically-altered humans given the ability to shapeshift into the form of a feral animal. Currently, shifted forms need to be of similar mass and mammalian forms are more successful than non-mammalian or alien forms. Therians have become common-place around the Heimdall and their population includes General Rosenheim herself.

Hero: Superhumans altered to have greater strength, stamina, dexterity, and senses. Many hero-class individuals also have immunity to temperature and physical damage. A largely successful and easily implemented project.

Nixe: Soldiers altered to better adapt to underwater conditions, which often includes physical manipulation into a siren-like form. Nixe are amphibious and able to breathe air and water through a complex respiratory system.

Valkyrie: Humanoids with grafted, functional wings that permit flight. Smaller, slimmer individuals are preferred for this project, to lessen the size requirements for functional wings.

Nosferatu: Predatory monsters with enhanced senses, greater strength and durability, and carnivorous teeth and claws that make them formidable physical opponents.

Aberrant: In-progress. Utilizing the pollen of an alien flower found on planet Gaea, this heightens senses and pain thresholds, massively increases stamina and strength, and triggers a barbaric rage.

In addition, the Heimdall has begun a side-program specializing in dragon genetics: Drache Paragon Project (or DPP). It's purpose is to create the perfect draconic soldier and bond. Obedient, intelligent, invulnerable, and powerful.
