Personality

Persevering (Stubborn) - Empathetic - Judgemental - Honest (Opinionated) - Ambitious - Supportive - Forgiving

Nanaya doesn't agree that "might makes right", but she absolutely believes one must be mighty to be heard. She's constantly striving to prove herself, to the point of throwing herself into conflicts she's not equipped to handle. She refuses to accept her own limitations, but does so with the best intentions. Nanaya knows she's reliable, and she wants to become strong enough that others see her worthy of relying on. In a word, she wants to be a hero; someone her friends and family back home will come to admire. She wants to have a part in protecting her colony.

Honesty comes easily to Nanaya, but it's a double-edged sword - she doesn't hesitate to share her opinions, even if it's not socially appropriate to do so. She's acquired a reputation as a loud-mouth, and her honesty may be blunt enough to hurt feelings when malice isn't her intent. On the other hand, being honest has made her trustworthy. She's open about her emotions and enjoys sharing her inner world with people. She's supportive, eager to help, and loves making friends.

As much as she tries to hide it, Nanaya has issues with self-worth. She's barraged with intrusive thoughts of never being good enough.. She'll always be too small, too weak, to make a real difference in the world. The attitude only amplifies her penchant for pushing herself beyond her limits. Nanaya's issues have led her to be judgemental of others. She doesn't want to be held back, and while she tries to avoid being outright cruel, she tends to exclude people with obvious weaknesses.

Background

  • Born in a terraforming colony; Kishar. Beyond terraforming, Kishar's purpose was exporting planetary resources to space stations. While Kishar lacked native sapient beings, it teamed with dangerous beasts. Rich in resources and quickly accumulating wealth, Kishar colony hired mercenaries from the Heimdall to protect their people and assets from local dangers.

  • Nanaya is the second youngest daughter of seven siblings. She's used to being overlooked and spent much of her childhood being pushed around by siblings and peers for her youth and small size. She was always a scrawny little thing, trying her hardest to keep up with her bigger siblings, but often falling short.

  • The Heimdall soldiers protecting Kishar were living superheroes in her eyes. She admired their strength, their resilience, their loyalty to protecting the colony. She admired them with stars in her eyes and determined she would be a soldier like them one day. A sentiment that her siblings often laughed at. Science and engineering were far more lucrative careers, and something tiny Nanaya would excel at. Or maybe paper-pushing-record-keeping for resource management. The doubt only drove Nanaya to work harder to achieve her dream.

  • In school, she participated in as many extra-curricular sports as she could. She did poorly at sports aimed for bulkier frames (rugby, wrestling - even within her own weight class), but fared better at sports requiring speed and agility. She was never a star team mate, but she refused to back down from a challenge and persevered toward the next big thing when she was cut from a team.

  • The day after her 18th birthday, she raced to the Kishar-Branch of Heimdall recruitment and put her name in. Despite her small size, the Heimdall accepted her application, with strong encouragement to participate in the "superhero" program for genetic modification.
